Introduction

Studio pottery is at the same time simple and complex.

The basics are simple:

  1. Get some clay (one of the most plentiful substances on Earth).
  2. Form it in the shape you want.
  3. Fire it to a temperature hot enough to "freeze" it's shape. (This is called "bisque" firing.)
  4. Decorate the pot with glazes.
  5. Fire it again to melt the glazes onto the pot.
